Founded in 2015, Nimalay is a French-Burmese humanitarian association governed by the French law of 1901. We work in Chin State, one of the poorest and most isolated regions of Myanmar, and alongside families in the disadvantaged districts of Yangon.
We believe education is the surest way to break the cycle of poverty for good. But school alone is not enough: a child cannot learn hungry, ill, or after a three-hour walk to the nearest classroom. That is why each of our projects combines schooling with nutrition, health, hygiene and family support.
One of our founders lives in Myanmar and has been committed to the country for more than fifteen years. That permanent presence lets us design every project with the families and communities themselves, and follow each child individually.

Opened in Chin State in 2017, our boarding house had to be relocated to Yangon because of the civil war. It takes in children from isolated villages too far from a secondary school to continue their studies: accommodation, meals, tutoring and healthcare are covered all year round.
For out-of-school children from Yangon's poorest districts: a safe place to come back to learning, with tutoring, educational activities and a path back into the school system.
Giving children born with a heart defect the surgery they need. Two children have already had their operation — Ngaih No and Lin Lin Htet. A fundraiser is open for Shwe Thadar Bo, aged one.
Fifteen small-scale projects run hand in hand with local communities: a school vegetable garden for food self-sufficiency, water access, equipment. Concrete, lasting improvements for isolated villages.

You choose to sponsor either a resident of our boarding house or a child still living with their family. You follow their progress year after year, until they can stand on their own feet.
Nimalay is a small, volunteer-run organisation. Every contribution is allocated in full to the cause it was given for, and it is followed up on site, in direct contact with the families.
